Inspirations / Blog

When I start a painting I always ask myself what I would hang on my wall, true aesthetic preference is what appeals to me the most. Visuals are a powerful thing. I have been asked what inspires me and my answer is “everything!”. From the wine I order to the cheese I pick, or the lighting in my favourite restaurant, even the patterns on a napkin or my table setting. I open up my senses to all of it and that’s what I draw on when I start a new collection. These every day and to some, mundane things are what inspire me when I prop up my canvas.

My work is constantly evolving, as all work naturally should, to continue moving forward. I believe that spontaneity is one of the drivers of creativity. Which is why for an artist who started her journey within the confines of realism I have come a long way from it.  I now even involve my colors in deciding the subject of my artwork. It is an organic process. It is spontaneous and always provides me with a new perspective. Sometimes even I am pleasantly surprised at what shows up and then I just help it along. It’s a bit like giving birth without knowing the sex of your baby.
